This section provides tools for Library Trustees to learn their job and engage in activities for the improvement of their service to patrons.
The Tool Kit was created to introduce Trustees to the role and responsibility of their new position. It clarifies the differences between advisory and administrative boards and provides direction and context for boards within California government.
These trustee tips may be used to stimulate in-depth discussion of topics included in Training sessions, or to cover topics pertinent to trustees beyond those included in the training curriculum.
This 3-hour workshop is provided free upon request for trustees and commissioners who are CPLA members. A visiting trainer conducts a discussion of trustee activities and answers questions about methods and procedures. The library director participates along with the trustees. Friends and Foundation Board members sometimes participate as well. Many boards have repeated the workshop over the years as board membership changes. For more information, contact us.
